ROCKBANDLOUNGE.COM SPOTLIGHT
New York City
Bright lights, big city, New York. Concrete
and steel, vintage bricks and eight million people all living on top of
one another. And the music - the rock music! I couldn't think of a more exciting
place to profile for the new ROCKBANDLOUNGE.COM. So I booked the flight!
I started at the Indiegrrl RockHER Showcase at
the Rebar Lounge on a Thursday night. Hard rock band Slushpuppy
was on stage when I walked in the door. Lead singer Dawn Botti has a huge voice and the
stage presence to match. Calamine had just
finished their set of sweet indie pop and From
the Desk of Sally, a power pop band was up next.
Friday I spent time with Christian and Rick
from ACTS MAGDALENA. We explored Greenwich
Village, played with squirrels and talked music. Saturday I met up with Karen Rush - the epitome of a cool New York
chick. We did a photo session in an empty lot in Hell's Kitchen and at a neighborhood
garage where she gamely posed with the service technicians.
Saturday night I went to see Pawnshop at the Collins, one of the tiniest bars you've
ever seen. The people were packed in like sardines - no room for dancing, but there
was plenty of swaying and shouting.
Maybe it's the
intense competition, maybe it's the inspiration of the city itself, but there's an abundance of
great music in New York. Book a flight and you'll see! Better yet, read my interviews
and discover some really hot new rock bands right now!
